Part of a series inspired by the sounds and motion we just barely catch as we walk in nature. The Resplendent Quetzal live in South America and truly lives up to its name.

The male has long tail feathers and a bright red belly, contrasting with the incredible greens of the bird and its surroundings. The markings on the painting describe the flight path and song of this bird.

I love painting nature realistically when inspired to do so, but abstract work gives form to the experience of tapping into my own nature and instinct to really play with color and composition.

These pieces, while done with joy for what I experience here and now, is tinged by sadness when I consider that one day we will only have fleeting memories of this lushness in nature due to habitat loss and climate change.
