Part of a series inspired by the sounds and motion we just barely catch as we walk in nature. This piece is based on the Dark-Eyed Junco, a frequent visitor to my patio. A brave and small soul, fast and bold enough to look me in the eye and keep eating.

I love painting nature realistically when inspired to do so, but abstract work gives form to the experience of tapping into my own nature and instinct to really play with color and composition.

These pieces, while done with joy for what I experience here and now, is tinged by sadness when I consider that one day we will only have fleeting memories of this lushness in nature due to habitat loss and climate change.
